CAPP (Curriculum Advising and Program Planning)
Degree Evaluation Information

CAPP is a an acronym for Curriculum Advising and Program Planning. CAPP is a degree evaluation system designed to help both the student and their advisor determine what courses the student specifically needs to fulfill the requirements for the program that the student is following. The system will compare the students coursework against the specific catalog requirements that the student is following, and provide detailed information about any transfer credits, waivers, substitutions and the courses the student is currently registered for. This report will detail all the requirements towards the degree, indicating which of the requirements may or may not have been met.

On this page we will try to provide information about CAPP and the new degree evaluation system. Please be sure to use the appropriate links for faculty/advisor or for students. At the present time, not all degree programs are set-up for degree evaluation processing.

Glossary of CAPP Terms

Area: An areas each major component of a degree program such as: BS-Core Requirements. BS-MGMT-MKT, Economics Minor, General Electives

Attribute: Attributes are identifiers that are attached to courses to help to understand where the course will count towards fulfilling the requirements. Examples are: LC-Learning Community, YLIB-Liberal Arts, ENWR-English Writing.

Catalog Term: This is the catalog the student is following. In most cases, it is the term the student entered at St. John Fisher. If the student entered in a spring semester, the catalog will be from the previous fall semester.

Connectors:  "And", "Or" and "None" are the three types of connectors used in CAPP Degree Evaluation.

Core: The core curriculum consists of 15 courses, which students must successfully complete to graduate from St. John Fisher.

Degree Evaluation: The degree evaluation is the result of running a compliance. May also be referred to as an degree audit.

Entry Term: Is the term your requirements are evaluated against. In most cases it is the catalog term you are following.

Expected Graduation Term: This is the calculated date of expected graduation and does not always accurately reflect the actual planned date of graduation.

In progress: Courses that you are registered for but have not been graded yet. These courses will have a grade of "R" in the right hand column labeled "Source". CAPP is effectively giving credit for the course even though a passing grade has in been achieved. Be sure to check again after grades are posted to be certain a passing grade has been received.

Met: Indicates that the requirement for the area, program, minor, etc have been met.

Not Met: Indicates that the requirements for the program, area, minor etc. have not been met. If you believe that you have satisfied the requirement and 'Not Met' is displaying, check with you advisor or the Registrar's Office to determine if you have an outstanding substitution/waiver form that has not been completed of if you have outstanding transfer credit that has not been evaluated or posted.

Result Of: The Date this degree audit was processed

Used: Credits, courses etc. used in calculating the degree evaluation

Unused: Show the credits courses etc. that were not used in the degree evaluation.

What-If Analysis: A "What-if" analysis will allow you to determine how the student's coursework matches the requirements in a different degree program.  For example, the advisee is a History major and is considering a change to American Studies. The "What-if" compares the coursework against the American Studies requirements and produces a new evaluation listing the coursework that would be required to complete the new program
