Faculty/Advising InformationADDITIONAL RESOURCES All faculty and staff with advising responsibilities are now able to view the academic record of all enrolled students. This means you will be able to view the web transcript and run a degree evaluation for all enrolled students. While this means this change will allow you to meet with and advise any student on campus, there are limits. To comply with FERPA regulations, you must have legitimate educational interest to access a student's records. In simple terms, you must be meeting with the student or preparing for an advising meeting to have a legitimate need to access their record. In all cases, you remain the custodian of the student's record and may not disclose any information to third parties, including the student's parents. If you are not certain of the FERPA guidelines and how they pertain to you, visit the FERPA information page in the faculty section of the Registrar's Office web site or click on the following link. You may also want to view "The top 10 reasons to avoid FERPA problems and a visit from the campus enforcer." The key to being FERPA compliant is to always treat a student's record as though the record was your own. If you have any questions or have problems using this new Fish'R'Net functionality, contact the College Registrar, Julia Thomas at jthomas@sjfc.edu.
