Petition for Withdrawal from the College or Leave of Absence

Things You Should Know ...

Before You Withdraw -

  • Even though you are withdrawing from the College, you may still incur tuition and housing charges for the semester.  Your financial aid eligibility for the current and subsequent semesters may also be affected.  If you have not submitted all the necessary paperwork to the Financial Aid Office, you may lose financial aid which could help pay for your current charges.
  • Please contact the Bursar's Office and/or Financial Aid Office to find out how your withdrawal will affect your bill.
  • The withdrawal date used for academic consequences is the date that this completed form is received by the Registrar's Office and not the self-reported last date of attendance.
  • If you are living in a residence hall, you will also need to complete a Withdrawal From Residence Form which is available from the Residential Life Office.

After you Withdraw -

  • If you are a Perkins and/or Stafford Loan borrower, your grace periods will begin once you withdraw.  You will be required to begin repayment of your Perkins Loan(s) within nine months of your withdrawal.  You will be required to begin repayment of your Stafford Loan(s) within six months of your withdrawal.

  • If you transfer to another school, you may be able to defer repayment of your Perkins and Stafford Loans by contacting your lender or loan servicer.

If You Plan to Return to St. John Fisher College -

  • If you are withdrawn from SJFC for two semesters or less, and do not take coursework elsewhere during your absence, you may register for classes by completing a quick reactivation form through the Student Development Center or the School of Adult & Graduate Education (SAGE).  If you are withdrawn for more than two semesters, or take coursework elsewhere and decide to return, you will need to reapply through the Admissions or SAGE Offices.  You will not, however, need to pay another application fee.  Please contact the appropriate office above for registration and deadline dates.

  • If you plan to take courses elsewhere and transfer the credits back to SJFC, we encourage you to complete a Transfer Credit Request Form available in the Registrar's Office or online.

  • If you would like to be considered for financial aid, contact the Financial Aid Office to find out which applications will need to be completed.
